USFS Shuts down part of National Forest Land: Please Stop Stupid

Due to the social distancing guidelines put out by the POTUS and the State of California the USFS has implemented a shut down of some federal lands and sites in the South Lake Tahoe area. This order was a response to groups of users not practicing social distancing in this area and continuing to congregate.
If we are not responsible the government WILL step in with regulation. Please act responsibly so that the USFS does not close down the rest of the forest with these draconian penalties in place... $5000 and $10,000 fines plus jail time... just for walking across a swath of land that is owned by the American People, you and me.
This week in Colorado there were eleven human caused avalanches. I'm sure closing off all land to skiing in Colorado is being discussed. in order for our public lands to stay open we need to NOT be stupid. C'mon people, I know many of you may not be able to do it for a lifetime but I am just asking for a couple months. Stop Stupid before your Big Brother has to step in to protect our first responders. Act responsibly so that we can keep our public lands open!
South Shore recreation sites and areas impacted by this announcement include the following:
  • Pope-Baldwin National Recreation Bike Path
  • Pope Beach
  • Camp Richardson Resort
  • Camp Richardson Corral
  • Fallen Leaf Campground/Beach
  • Tallac Historic Site/Beach
  • Kiva Picnic Area/Beach
  • Kiva Beach/Tallac Point
  • Taylor Creek Visitor Center
  • Baldwin Beach
These closures will be in effect through April 30, 2020, and will address public health and safety concerns to area- and site-related recreation. A violation of this prohibition is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both per 16 USC 551 and 18 USC 3559, 3571, and 3581.

  1. Good advice Sven! In light of the Stanford study that came out yesterday that suggests the death rate of COVID-19 is being overstated by as much of a factor as 85, I wonder how can the government be any more incompetent? A factor of 85 means, take the 1.4% death rate that is being boasted by our awful media today and divide that by 85. That means the death rate could be as low as .016% (possibly even lower). That is about the same as the seasonal flu. I know, those right wing lunatics at Stanford probably fabricated the numbers ... because our government is 100% trustworthy. What would happen if all skiers and riders showed up at the closed off "public" lands? What could the Dept of Agriculture do? Soon, we will have to start pushing back ... perhaps very soon.
